The Pretoria North Magistrates Court sentenced Tshepo Frans Kekana (37) from Garankuwa in Pretoria to 18 years imprisonment for the rape of a 32-year-old woman.
In February 2019, while the woman was on her way to her boyfriend in the evening in Soshanguve Extention 6, she met Kekana who dragged her behind a church and raped her.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Regional Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the victim reported the incident to the police. “In August 2019, while investigations were continuing, Kekana was arrested in another matter. His swabs were taken and his DNA matched those of the victim’s rape in Soshanguve.”
Mahanjana added that when Kekana committed the rape, he was out for two years on parole after he was sentenced to nine years for another rape.
Kekana pleaded guilty to the rape and asked the court for a lenient sentence. The court ruled that a none parole period of 12 years is set for this case. The National Prosecuting Authority welcomed the sentence.
