Justice Department condemns forced entry into Pretoria Magistrate’s court

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development condemns the action by members of the public who forced their way into the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court on Friday 07 May 2021.

The department said according to information at it’s disposal, the incident took place during the court appearance of Leon Coetzee, the accused in a case which pertains to the death of Thembinkosi Thabethe.

The case has been postponed to 20 July 2021, pending further investigation. Bail was denied to the accused in the case. The Department  confirmed that no injuries were suffered during the incident.

“The Department calls on all members of the public to demonstrate respect for public premises and to the legal processes that apply to all cases before the courts, at all times.”
