Four suspects aged between 31 and 60 are expected to appear before Harding Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Nata on Wednesday.The Hawks arrested them for cash in transit heist which happened on the N2 Main Road near Harding on Friday, 30 April 2021.
It is alleged that two armored vehicles were en route from Port Shepstone to Kokstad after collecting cash from the depot.
Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said whilst travelling in convoy, the other vehicle disappeared and the other one was allegedly stopped by the suspects. “An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and the suspects fled the scene. Members interviewed all security guards who were robbed and during the interview, it was established that three of the guards were allegedly involved”.
Mhlongo added that it is suspected that they colluded with the suspects. “Their houses were searched and three of them were found with cash allegedly taken during the heist. A total amount of R709 510.00 was recovered.”
