A 36-year-old man Lucky Mshubi, appeared at the Lenasia Magistrates Court in Gauteng, on charges of murder, housebreaking, robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice. A search for a missing woman, Naadira Vanker, led to the arrest of Mshubi on 28 April 2021.

Spokesperson for National Prosecuting Authority(NPA) in Gauteng, Phindi Mjonondwane said upon questioning the suspect, he pointed the Police to a shallow grave in a yard at Phumlamqashi in Lenasia.

“The remains of the body of the woman, who was abducted on 22 April 2021 from her flat in Lenasia, were discovered in the shallow grave. The state alleges that Mshubi planned the offences that resulted in the death of Vanker and upon realising that she was dead, Mshubi then dug a grave and buried her. The cause of death is yet to be determined.”

Mjonondwane said the suspect will remain in custody after he indicated to the court that he does not wish to apply for bail and opted to conduct his own defence.

The matter was postponed to 26 June 2021 for further investigations.
