A 30-year-old murder suspect is expected to appear before the Mtunzini Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday for murdering a 35-year-old Sandile Buthelezi. It is alleged that on 26 January 2021 at 22:40, the suspect and Buthelezi were on Salveshe Road, Isikhalambazo “chilling” with some friends when an argument ensued.
Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the suspect was annoyed by Buthelezi that he was spending a lot of time talking on his phone instead of conversing with them. He continued to provoke Buthelezi but was stopped by some friends and he walked away.
“Few minutes later he came back, uttered no words and stabbed the victim twice on the chest. Buthelezi attempted to fight back but was too frail to stop the suspect.”
Mbele said the victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries on arrival. “A murder case was opened at Sundumbili police station for investigation. The suspect was traced and was arrested the same day for murder” concluded Mbele.
