The misfiring Kaizer Chiefs did the unthinkable by beating the on form Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 at the Loftus Versfield stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Sundowns drew the first blood through Gaston Sirino who scored for the host in the 35 minutes. Amakhosi had a fight back attitude and things changed when Dumisani Zuma replaced Khama Billiat due to injury.
However, Chiefs missed good opportunities to score in the first until Sundowns got the first goal. Leonardo Castro failed to score and he had an influence in shaking the Sundowns defence.
Things kept on changing when Samir Nurkovic was introduced and few minutes in the park, he forced Sundowns’ captain Mosa Lebusa to score an own goal on the 72 minutes.
As Sundows players were trying to regroup, the man of the match Njabulo Blom broke the offside trap and found Zuma in a better position and managed to give Amakhosi the second goal on the 74 minutes.
Amakhosi then moved into the top 8 by occupying position 8 with 28 points while Sundowns is still on top of the log with 47 points.
Sundowns’ unbeaten record is taken away by Chiefs.
