The Hawks in Mpumalanga arrested a 39- year-old Traffic Officer on Friday 23 April 2021 for alleged corruption.
It is alleged that on Thursday 30 January 2020, the complainant was driving a company truck loaded at the back along Badplaas and Barberton road when he was stopped by the traffic officials.
Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said it is further alleged that the traffic officer searched the truck and told the victim that he is not allowed to load people at the back of the truck.
“The traffic officer allegedly removed the disc and demanded R1500.00 for him to return the disc. The complainant did not have money at the time and the traffic officer decided to struck the truck from the road and he promised him that he will get the disc back when he brings the money.”
Sekgototi added that the matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation in Nelspruit which led to the arrest of the suspect. He is expected to make his first appearance before the Barberton Magistrates Court on Monday 26 April 2021.
