Police Captain arrested for bribery

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and SAPS Anti-Corruption arrested a 56-year-old Captain from  Johannesburg SAPS on Monday, 5 April 2021.

The Captain, conducted an unauthorised roadblock with his members at Observatory Street and Steyn Street. He stopped an undercover vehicle, demanded a driving licence of which the agent didn’t produce. The Captain demanded bribery of R100.00.

IPID Spokesperson Ndileka Cola said the captain was arrested and detained at Yeoville Police Station and he is set to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court today.

In another Easter Sting Operation conducted by the Gauteng SAPS Anti-Corruption, Independent Police Investigate Directorate (IPID) and National Traffic Anti-Corruption on Friday  2 April 2021, a 45-year-old traffic officer from Randfontein Public Safety was arrested for corruption.

“The officer was operating a speed camera where he stopped an undercover vehicle. He asked for an R200.00 bribe and was arrested on the spot for corruption and he has been detained at Randfontein Police Station.”

Cola added that the Randfontein Anti-corruption unit will handle this case.
