Thohoyandou High Court on Thursday sentenced a 45-year-old Samuel Fhuatuwani Thavheni, a pastor, to life imprisonment following an incident where he raped a 14-year-old church member on the 03 March 2016 in the bushes in a village outside Musina.

The victim was at church during the night prayer with other members when she received a message that she was called by the pastor. She was then convinced to accompany the pastor to go and pray at the nearby bushes where he raped her.

Limpopo Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said the victim then alerted her family about the ordeal and the police were notified.”The police worked tirelessly until the accused was arrested and subsequently sentenced.”

Limpopo Police Commissioner-General Nneke Ledwaba welcomed this long jail sentence handed down to the accused and he appreciated both the Investigating Officers in the case for making sure that this criminal is sent to jail.
