A multi-disciplinary team led by Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Springbok K9, Local Criminal Record Centre and Upington Crime Intelligence resulted in an arrest of eleven suspects aged between 29 and 24 for dealing in drugs.
The syndicate members were arrested on Monday morning in Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces during an investigation aimed at addressing drugs and drug trafficking in Namakwa Cluster.
Hawks Spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi said the team infiltrated the syndicate resulting in approximately thirteen transactions being recorded.
“An assortment of drugs which include, mandrax and tik valued at over R208 900 were purchased from the syndicate members.Two vehicles, cell phones, camera, mandrax tablets and tik with an estimated street value of R3.3million, and an undisclosed amount of money were seized during their arrest.”said Mnisi.
The Acting Provincial Head of DPCI Brigadier PW Mashimbye has applauded the team for an outstanding work and their resilience in fighting drug trafficking in Northern Cape.“Drugs and trafficking of drugs shall not be given an opportunity to prosper in this province”
All suspects are expected to appear before Springbok Magistrate court on Tuesday,30 March 2021.
