One hundred and thirty-nine people died of Coronavirus in South Africa over the last 24 hours, bringing the total deaths to 51 560. Gauteng recorded 29 deaths, KwaZulu-Natal 20, Eastern Cape 2, Free State 13, Western Cape 9, Limpopo 57 and Mpumalanga 6.
The tests conducted to date is 9 490 435 with 24 920 new tests recorded since the last report.The recovery now stands at 1 458 001 which translates to a 95% recovery rate.
People are urged to continue adhering to the health protocols put in place: washing hands with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitiser and always maintain social distance.
The health department said the number of health workers vaccinated under the Sisonke protocol is 157 286 as of 6: 30 pm on 16 March 2021.
