KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza has called on residents to provide the police with information that could lead to arrests of suspects linked to the murder of a 17-month-old baby and a 15-year-old boy.

The body of the baby was found with eyes gouged out at KwaCeza, Magagadolo area in Zululand District after being reported by family members as missing.

The child was last seen playing with other children. The mother only realised that the child was missing when she called other children into the house. The child’s body was found in the forest adjacent to the family homestead.

In a separate incident at Pepworthy/Kwasizwile area, in uThukela District, a boy identified as Lindelani Mavimbela, was allegedly dragged out of his home by unknown people last week.

The assailants tortured him in front of his grandmother. He was badly beaten and left for dead in the family homestead.

It is alleged that his attackers came into the homestead, demanding to see Mavimbela’s uncle.  When they couldn’t find him they resorted to dragging the boy out and assaulted him.

MEC Khoza said the existence of criminals targeting defenseless children has become uncontrollable in the province.
