A 36-year old Zimbabwean National was arrested for smuggling illicit cigarettes into South Africa during a routine search operation conducted on Saturday 13 March 2021.
1044 cartoons of illicit cigarettes to the value of R558 419. 00 were found hidden inside the truck. Limpopo Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said the truck was also confiscated during the arrest.
Ngoepe said one thousand nine hundred and eighty-five (1 985) suspects aged between 21 and 56 were arrested for various offences including possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, rape, assault and robberies.
He said in Mokopane, police arrested a 30-year-old suspect for possession and transportation of drugs after they received a tip-off from members of the community about a blue BMW transporting drugs around the area.
“Members swiftly reacted and spotted the vehicle at Mokopane town, they tactically approached the vehicle with only the driver, they searched him and found 40 sachets of drugs.” Said Ngoepe.

Limpopo Police Commissioner Provincial Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba appreciated the sterling work done by the Police in the Province during the ongoing cleanup operations.
The suspects arrested during these operations are expected to appear before different magistrate’s courts soon, across the province.
