Sundowns thrashes Polokwane City

“Stop us if you can”, this is the ongoing mentality in the Mamelodi Sundowns after playing 8 games unbeaten in all competitions. On Wednesday afternoon, the Chloorkop players thrashed the GladAfrica Champions side Polokwane City 4-0 in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The KaboYellow dominated the game from the first kick which made the Limpopo side to be chasing only. Sundowns continued their dominance after the lethal striker Peter Shalulile scored the first goal of the game ,in 10 minutes.

Before Polokwane City could come to terms with the first goal, Lebohang Maboe increased the visitors’ stress by doubling the Sundown’ lead in the 14th minutes, just four minutes apart from Shilulile’s goal.

Furthermore, in 60 seconds from Maboe’s goal, Lesedi Kapinga added the third goal in 15 minutes.

The first 45 minutes of the game was not on the Polokwane City’ side. Andile Jali saw an opportunity to score the 4th goal in the 28 minutes.

Haashim Domingo was awarded the Man of the Match for his performance that denied Polokwane City to even score a single goal.

Sundowns kicked Polokwane City out of the Nedbank Cup, therefore, Sundowns will now face Orlando Pirates in the top 8 of the tournament. The date and time will be confirmed.
