Former Department of Health employee found guilty of fraud

Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court found a former logistics official for the Eastern Cape Department of Health, Baxolile Ngoloyi guilty of corruption, fraud and money laundering involving over R357 000.

Ngoloyi committed these crimes when he was a supervisor in Bhisho Hospital’s stores’ department. He also worked with other staff members to process payments to suppliers.

“From 11 December 2017 to 06 June 2018 he conspired with Sithembile Smith, the sole director of Eza Services and Suppliers, a construction company based in Cookhouse to make use of Eza’s bank account in order to facilitate fraudulent payments from the department.” Said NPA Regional Spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani 

Ngoloyi pleaded guilty to fraudulently processing the payments. Advocate Tjaart Van Zyl accepted the guilty plea.

The case was remanded to 03 May 2021 for sentence proceedings.
