The Polie in Mpumalanga are urging the public for their assistance in finding the suspects who brutally murdered a 70- year-old man during an apparent farm attack at Ogies.

Mpumalanga Police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi said information at police disposal indicates that Bertus Steenberg who was residing alone at Leeupoort Farm was attacked by his assailants where they assaulted him.

 “They robbed him of his belongings. He was then strangled to death before the suspects fled the scene with his white Toyota Hilux bakkie with registration number JWC 645 MP.”

Hlathi added that the victims family became concerned when they could not get hold of him over the phone after several attempts, on 04 March 2021. They then got hold of the victim’s neighbours who went to check on him.

“Upon arrival at the said farm, they found the house ransacked, with the victim lying motionless and tied to his other vehicle. Police and medical personnel were notified about the incident and the man was certified dead by the paramedics at the scene.” Explained Hlathi.
