The assault case against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and former EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi will continue in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court from  9 to 11 March 2021.

The pair allegedly assaulted a police officer at the funeral of struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in 2018. The EFF said the policeman denied them entry into the final resting place of a struggle stalwart. They said all they wanted was to enter the graveyard.

It is expected that the operational manager of the cemetery where the alleged assault took place, the first investigative officer and high-ranking SAPS officers will testify in the case.

AfriForum announced in July 2019 that the organisation would be approaching the court with a mandamus application to force the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to decide whether or not to prosecute Malema and Ndlozi in this case.
