Alleged car hijackers denied bail

The two suspects arrested in connection with the alleged hijacking of a courier van along the R37 road near Malomane village in the Apel Policing area, on Tuesday the 02 March 2021,  appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Friday  05 March 2021.

Duncan Nyakane aged 35 and Freddy Madisha aged 34, are facing charges of possession of suspected stolen properties and car hijacking.

Limpopo Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said it is alleged that a group of armed suspects travelling in a VW Polo, hijacked a courier vehicle that was on its way to deliver a cargo of cellphones and electronic gadgets to various businesses in and around Apel.

“The Police were notified and a manhunt ensued until the duo were arrested a house at Westenburg. The house was further searched and a large number of cell phones and several other electronic gadgets with the estimated value of over R300 000.00 were recovered. The VW Polo believed to be the car used during this incident, was also confiscated. Explained Ngoepe.

The suspects were denied bail and their cases were postponed to 12 March 2021 for bail application and further Police investigations.
