The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on Thursday morning arrested four police officers from Carletonville Police Station. They are facing charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice as well as theft of copper.

IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola said it is alleged that on 11 February 2021, four police members from Carletonville intercepted copper cable from thieves and shot two African males dead.

“It’s further alleged that when the police left the crime scene, they went to a scrapyard and sold the copper cable. They left the two deceased males at the scene and did not report the shooting incident to IPID as required by law.” Added Cola.

The suspects will appear at the Oberholzer Magistrates Court in Carltonville on Friday, 05 March 2021.
