Five suspects to appear in court for possession of unlicensed firearms

Five suspects aged between 27 and 34 are expected to appear before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 02 March 2021, for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They were arrested on Sunday, 28 February 2021 at Assen near Brits. 

Captain Sam Tselanyane said according to information available at this stage, Assen police were busy patrolling on the R511 road when they were alerted by the local security company about a suspicious Toyota Hilux double cab vehicle.

“ A car chase ensued consequent to the spotting of the vehicle by members on the said road. The vehicle with five occupants was eventually pulled off and upon searching it, two rifles and two guns, were found.” Said Tselanyane.

He added that a revolver and 27 live rounds together with a suspected stolen laptop were found in the vehicle.

Tselanyane said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in a house robbery at Thabazimbi in Limpopo.
