The Police in Sekhukhune in Limpopo on Friday, the 26 February 2021, arrested three suspects aged between 28 and 33 at Atok for illegal mining during the disruptive operation.
Members of the community tipped the police off about a group of suspects mining chrome illegally in that area. Police accurately followed the information which led to the arrest of the suspects and confiscation of a TLB machine.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the Team proceeded to Malipisdrift Policing area outside Lebowakgomo after they received another information about the existence of illegal mining activities at Ga-Makgoba, Leporogong.
“The suspects managed to evade arrest but Police managed to confiscate the following items: Four(04) × generators, two(02) x jackhammer, five(05) x Wheelbarrows and one(01) x electric extension .”Added Ngoepe.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba applauded the police for their endless determination to fight against illegal mining in the province.
The arrested suspects will appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the 01 March 2021
Police investigations are continuing.
