A 52-year-old man is expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court, North West province, on Monday, 22 February 2021, for illegal possession of explosives.
The suspect was arrested on Friday, 19 February 2021, after members of Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Illicit Mining Team reacted to a tip-off about the illegal possession of explosives.
“Thus, the suspect was ultimately found and arrested after being found in possession of explosives at a hostel in Khuma Location near Stilfontein.” Said Colonel Amanda Funani.
The District Commissioner of Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Suzette Pretorius, applauded the Illicit Mining Team for the sterling job.
Funani added that the suspect raiding operations conducted across the province by detectives between Monday, 15 and Friday, 19 February 2021, resulted in the arrest of 660 suspects for various offences.
