The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating an assault incident which allegedly occurred on Sunday the 14 February 2021 in Phuthaditjhaba, Free State.
It is alleged that a 46-year-old blind woman was slapped numerous times on her face by the police officer.
IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola said it is alleged that the police officers were at the woman’s house to arrest other 2 people for other transgressions.
“The 46-year-old heard the screaming and crying of her 32-year-old sister. As she reached out to check what was happening, she was allegedly slapped. She allegedly requested her 21-year-old daughter to record the assault on video, that’s when the police officer who was just standing outside opened the burglar gate and slapped her on her face numerous times.”
Cola added that another 25-year-old person was allegedly assaulted by the same police officers when he questioned them about what they were doing within the same yard.
IPID is continuing with the investigation process.
