President Cyril Ramphosa on Thursday evening during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) said two hundred and thirty-seven people have died In South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 47 382.
Ramaphosa said beyond these lies a human story of pain and tragedy adding that “we must defeat the coronavirus”.
He added that had not observed the basic health protocols,( washing hands with soap and water, or sanitiser, maintaining social distancing) the devastation caused by this virus would have far worse.
Gauteng recorded 82 deaths, Kwa Zulu Natal 36 , Mpumalanga 19, Limpopo 12 , Eastern Cape 46 , Western Cape 17 and Free State 25.
Recoveries stand at 1 377 980, which translates to a 92.8 % recovery rate.
