President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the extension of the R350 social grant relief funds for unemployed people with another three months.
Ramaphosa said this during his 2021 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Thursday night. The grants were stopped at the end of Januar2021.
“Over the last few months, we have had ongoing discussions with our social partners in business and labour, who proposed an extension of some of the social and economic support. We have therefore decided to extend the period for the Special Covid-19 Grant of R350 by a further three months,” said President.
He further gave lifeline support to the sectors which were not in business during the lockdown.
“We have also decided to extend the Covid-19 Ters benefit until 15 March 2021 only for those sectors that have not been able to operate.”
However, the conditions of this extension and the sectors to be included will be announced after consultations he said he will have with social partners at National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac).
The corruption allegations that are being laid bare in the State Capture Commission also received airtime from the President Ramaphosa during SONA. President Ramaphosa didn’t mention anything about PPE’s corruption.
