The South African Students Congress (SASCO) National leaderships will be picketing outside Parliament on Thursday, 11 February 2021 at 19:00 as President Cyril Ramaphosa delivers the State of the Nation Address (SONA) to the joint sitting.
SASCO general Secretary General Buthanani Thobela said they will picket and concurrently lead a digital march in the wake of “our new normal”.
“This decision comes at the wake of the continued arrogance displayed by the Government of the day especially within the Department of Finance, with the Treasury continuing to run this government as though it was not elected on its manifesto on the backs of the Working Class.”
Thobela said SASCO will be voicing that the R9 Billion cut from NSFAS must be allocated back and increase student funding as well as student debt clearance, amongst others.
“These are some of the issues which face the Higher Education and Training sector in our country and we firmly believe that President Ramaphosa must urgently address these issues as Education is one of the Governments Apex.” Concluded Thobela.
