Three suspected blue-light hijackers whose ages range between 30 and 40 are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate Court today following their arrests on Friday, 05 February 2021.

The trio will face charges of possession of illegal firearm, live ammunition and police uniform while investigations continue towards linking them to more crimes.

Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said the suspects are linked to a spate of truck hijacking and robberies taking place on the R 21 Freeway in Gauteng.

“During the arrests police recovered two firearms, one of them illegal, live ammunition and SAPS uniform items. Both firearms will be taken in for ballistic testing in anticipation of possible linkage to previous serious and violent crimes.”

Peters added that a white VW Polo was also seized at one of the addresses for further investigation to establish whether the vehicle could have been used during the hijackings and robberies.

Gauteng Police Commissioner, Elias Mawela commended the team for their relentless efforts in contributing positively to his priority to bring down the volumes of serious and violent crimes in the Province.
