City Power is warning the residents in the informal settlements against the dangers of illegal connections.
This is after one unknown person on Tuesday was electrocuted at Princess squatter camp in Roodepoort .
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said it is believed the the victim walked through an open veld with illegally connected exposed live wires when he tripped on them and got electrocuted. The paramedics declared him dead on the scene.
Mangena said Princess informal settlement is one of the many hotspots in the City identified by City Power where the problem of illegal connections persists, affecting power supply to nearby customers.
“The City has about 219 informal settlement across, most of them with no electricity. For informal settlements to receive services they need to be proclaimed first by Department of Human Settlement”. Explained Mangena.
City Power acting CEO Nancy Maluleke extended her condolences to the family of the victim of Princess electrocution.
