The Mopani District Municipality in Limpopo is alerting residents about the Tropical Storm “Eloise” that is expected to hit the area on Sunday.

This comes after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a warning for disruptive rainfall in the District that “Eloise” is expected to move over the Beitbridge border of Zimbabwe and Limpopo.

Municipality’s spokesperson Odas Ngobeni said SAWS predicted heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday, but further warns that there will still be some rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Furthermore, the SAWS warns that there is severe risk (Orange Alert Level 9) for disruptive rain affecting Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, Greater Giyani Municipality and Maruleng.

Residents are urged to be vigilant and stay indoors if possible.  “Members of the public must avoid crossing rivers, flooded roads and low-lying bridges.  But we also wish to advise motorists to drive with caution.” Said Ngobeni.

He said the Disaster Management Centre is on high alert, and residents can report the emergencies to the Centralised Communication Centre (CCC) on (015) 306-7000, (015) 307-5555 or 060 551 1911.
