Nine male suspects aged between 21 and 56 are expected to appear in the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court today, for possession of suspected stolen copper cables.
The suspects were arrested as part of the ongoing Safer Festive Season Operations on Tuesday morning, 29 December 2020, in Morogong village, outside Sun City.
Captain Aafje Botma said according to information received, a group of men presumably stole copper cables at Horizon Chrome mine in Tlhatlaganyane. Botma added that on following up, the police spotted and stopped a brown Mercedes Benz and a white Toyota Corolla vehicles at Morogong village.
“Both vehicles and the occupants were searched and copper cables suspected to be stolen at the mine with an estimated value of R50 000.00 were found. The suspects were arrested and the copper cables as well as the two vehicles were seized.” Explained Botma.
North West Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the members for their swift reaction, dedication and vigilance which led to the arrest.
