As the country has moved to COVID-19 Adjusted Alert Level 3, the public is notified about the immediate suspension of visits to correctional and remand detention centres.
Correctional Services Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said the Department is also reviewing its Covid-19 Risk-Adjusted Strategy and this will affect the Departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
“Legal practitioners will be required to contact Heads of Centres telephonically for a non-contact consultation, where circumstances and resources permit.”
Nxumalo said their top priority remains the health and safety of officials, inmates and the public.
