President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Monday evening that three hundred and thirty six people died in South Africa over the last 24 hours after contracting coronavirus, Eastern Cape 109, Free State 8, Gauteng 22, Kwa-Zulu Natal 49 and Western Cape 148.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 27 071.
A total of 1 011 871 COVID-19 cases have been identified.
So far, 849 974 people have recovered from COVID-19 in South Africa. This translates to 84% recovery.
President Ramaphosa emphasised that people should observe the health measures put in place, wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and to wash hash with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitiser. He said any person who does not wear a mask in public place will be committing an offense.
