Police Constable arrested for alleged murder

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has launched an investigation into allegations of death as a result of police action.

 It is alleged that on Saturday ,26 December 2020, a 31-year-old police officer based in Impendle Police Station,in Kwa Zulu Natal  shot the victim, who later died in a local clinic.

IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola said this is after community member’s goats were allegedly stolen. “The complainant got information about the suspect who stole their belongings and where they live. The complainant allegedly went to the police station, requested police officers to accompany them to the suspect’s home.”

Cola said the police escorted the complainant to the suspect’s home, as they searched the house, it is alleged that the police officer was flirting with one the ladies who were apparently having a party in the same house.

“An argument ensued between the deceased and the police officer as he allegedly confronted the officer for flirting whilst on duty.” Added Cola.

 The police allegedly fired one shot at the deceased. He was taken to the nearest clinic but unfortunately died.

The police constable was arrested and remanded in custody. He will appear at Impendle Magistrate Court on Monday the 28 December 2020 facing the charge of murder.
