Mayor appears in court on rape charges

Mayor of Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality in the North West, Mpho Meshack Pilane (36) appeared in the Delareyville Magistrates’ Court on Monday on two charges of rape, sexual assault and two charges of abduction.

North West NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the case was opened in Christiana, but was transferred to Delareyville where the incident allegedly occurred. “Pilane handed himself to the police on Monday, where he was charged and later appeared in court.”

The two complainants are allegedly minors aged 15 and 16 years.

The matter was remanded to 22 February 2021 for further investigations and the accused is out on R1 000 bail.
