The Orlando Pirates quenched their thirst for cup after beating Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 in the MTN8 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.
Phunya Sele Sele started to draw the first blood through Sphelele Luthuli from close range on the 4 minutes of the game. However, the Ezimnyama Ngenkani did not seat back and they reaped their reward after Deon Hotto slotted an equaliser goal on the 32 minutes.
Both Celtic and Pirates were looking to pop up a champagne after Bloemfontein side last won a major trophy in 2012 while Soweto side was in seventh year without a trophy.
The struggle for trophies for Celtic continues while Pirates can now put something in the cabinet. The second controversial goal of the Bhakaniya came after Celtic defender Ronald Pfumbidzai brought Tembinkosi Lorch down “in the box” on the 50th minutes and he, Lorch took the penalty.
He sent Jackson Mabokgwane to the wrong direction and Pirates took the lead.
This, made Celtic to lose the game and give Pirates the trophy. Pfumbidzai was red carded. Orlando Pirates closed 2020 year with a bang.
