Gauteng Community Safety to conduct an oversight role in Vanderbijlpark policing precinct

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety led by the Acting Head of Department (HoD), Sipho Thanjekwayo, will this morning visit Vanderbijlpark policing precinct to conduct an oversight over the police in dealing with gender-based violence cases as part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign.

As part of monitoring and overseeing the effectiveness of police in dealing with the scourge, Thanjekwayo will visit the family of a 14 year old girl who was raped in June 2020 at Bophelong in Vanderbijlpark allegedly by the Landlord who is also a renowned Pastor.

The perpetrator has since been arrested and is set to appear in Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court in February 2021 to face charges of rape and sexual assault

He  will interact with the family members of the victims and survivors of gender-based violence and update them on the developments regarding the cases of their loved ones.
