Education activist Hendrick Makaneta has welcomed the announcement by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga that the class of 2020 will have to re-write exams for maths paper 2 and physical science paper 2.

This comes after the exam question papers were leaked shortly before the matriculants sat down to write them.

“The Minister’s decision to allow learners to rewrite Mathematics Paper 2 and Physical Science Paper 2 will promote fairness to the National Senior Certificate assessments. The decision will certainly go a long way to restore confidence in the quality of assessments.” said Makaneta.

The Mathematics Paper 2 will be written on the 15th of this month and Physical Science Paper 2 will be written on the 17 December.

An employee of a Johannesburg-based company contracted by the Department to print matric exam papers has been arrested following an investigation by the Hawks.
