The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, will today visit various corridors to inspect and assess the state of readiness of green doors as part of Gauteng Provincial Government’s response towards the fight against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

Green doors are safe sites that are situated within five kilometres to the local police stations. They offer victims of gender-based violence services such as emotional containment, trauma debriefing and referral to the nearest police station to open a case. The department has recently recruited 24 green door ambassadors who were screened and contracted.

The assessment will commence in Sharpeville in the Southern corridor, followed by Vlakfontein and culminate into a formal programme in Meadowlands, Central corridor. The MEC will during the last phase in Meadowlands conduct a door to door campaign to educate community members on the impact of GBVF.
