The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) confirmed that offender Andile Lungisa has been placed on parole with effect from 1 December 2020.
He was found guilty of assaulting a DA councillor with a glass jug in 2016, during a scuffle in council and sentenced to 2 years in prison.
Lungisa was initially admitted on 09 May 2018 to serve a two (2) year sentence for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. However, he was released on bail on 25 May 2018 after having spent at least 16 days pending his appeal application.
In a statement issued by the department of Correctional Services, this parole placement means that Lungisa will serve the remainder of the sentence in the system of Community Corrections, wherein he will be expected to comply with a specific set of conditions and will be subjected to supervision until the sentence expires.
