The Education Union of South Africa (EUSA) calls for the immediate suspension of the principal of Makabele technical high school in Free State. This is pending an investigation into serious allegation of unfair labour treatment and infringement of the right to dignity.

EUSA said a pregnant educator almost delivered the baby inside the school premises allegedly because the principal refused to acknowledge and approve her maternity leave, even after it was recommended by a medical doctor.

EUSA said it investigated the matter and found that this principal had made himself “superior than the laws of country”. The Union added that this incident is not isolated.

“We have frequently written to the Free State Basic education raising concerns about principals and district officials who continuously bully employees without any consequences. One such example is Laerskool Mayerspark in Pretoria and Ratanda Primary Hiedleburg” .read a statement issued by the Educators Union of South Africa.

The Union said it will contact affected teachers and upon their approval, consult a legal team to investigate if the teachers can lay criminal charges against this “ bully”.
