The two police officers who were arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on the 13 June 2018 for a death in police custody case which occurred at the Ennerdale Police Station will be sentenced today at the Palm Ridge Court.
IPID Spokesperson Ndileka Cola said the investigation revealed that an african male, Innocent Sebediela, who died in police custody was assaulted by police officers together with other inmates.
“Furthermore, the Directorate’s detective work revealed that the assaulted inmates were not even registered in the custody register.”
Cola added that the IPID is anticipating that today’s sentencing will send a strong message to police officers who assault civilians.
