The Palm Ridge Court on Wednesday 25 November 2020 sentenced Constable Abraham Dintwe(35) and Constable Derrick Johnson (42) to 18 years imprisonment for murder and 10 years for torture that led to the death of Innocent Sebediela in 2018.
Sebediela died at Ennerdale Police Station after he was assaulted by police officers. The court heard that the pair has been declared unfit to possess the firearm.
The two police officers were arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on the 13th of June 2018.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Spokesperson Ndileka Cola said today’s sentencing will send a strong message to police officers who assault civilians and will serve as a deterrent for police brutality.
