The Gauteng Police are investigating the torching of 9 trucks on Thursday night on N3 between Heidelberg and Vosloorus .Two trucks were set alight on the R103.

This prompted the acting provincial commissioner Major General Patricia Rampota to “order” investigation into this matter.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said “So far, the police have gathered an information that a white Toyota Quantum and a black VW vehicle both with unknown registration are said to have been used by the suspects.” As to why the trucks were torched, the police say they have not yet found the motive.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance in Gauteng says the torching of trucks is an act of “economic sabotage”. “We therefore call on the Premier David Makhura to immediately launch an investigation into this economic sabotage and to bring the guilty to book. The perpetrators need to be brought to book to send a clear message that this type of criminality will not be tolerated”, said the party.

Police have launched the investigation in the cases of malicious damage to property and are appealing to anyone who might have information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspects to please call the nearest police station or the crime stop number on 08600 10111.
