The Ganyesa Regional Court on Tuesday,17 November 2020, sentenced a 26- year-old man to life imprisonment in connection with the rape of a 76-year-old woman.
Baikepi was arrest on Saturday, 5 January 2019, for the rape of an old granny at Selosesha section, Morokweng .
Colonel Amanda Funani said the elderly woman was sleeping alone at her residential place on Monday, 3 April 2017, when the accused broke the window to gain entry.
“ Baikepi covered the granny’s mouth with his hands to prevent her from screaming for help and raped her. Afterwards, he locked the victim’s bedroom, took the key and fled from the scene.”
Colonel Funani added that the accused was arrested at his home in Morokweng near Vryburg after the DNA results linked him to the incident and has been in custody since his arrest.
North West, Police Commissioner General Sello Kwena welcomed the life imprisonment term handed down to Baikepi. He said sentence will serve as a warning to all the criminals out there.
