The Mpumalanga Department of Education is very disturbed and shocked after it learnt of two sad incidents of brutality and murder.
It is alleged that two learners from Mkhulu Secondary School in Doornkop, Steve Tshwete Local Municipality were stabbed by a gang of marauding boys at a scholar transport bus pickup point after school on Friday, 13 November 2020. It has been established that the gang of boys are not from the school.
Mpumalanga Education spokesperson Jasper Zwane said the two learners were severely injured and have been admitted at the hospital where they received treatment.
Zwane said the second incident is alleged to have happened in the early hours of Saturday morning, 14 November 2020, leading to the murder of a male Security Officer, Mohlala Winias. He was stationed at Skhilla High School in Mashishini in the Thaba Chewu Local Municipality.
“ His lifeless body was found in the school vegetable garden with his hands tied to his back with a wire. A knife was also found next to him and it seems like he was also physically assaulted.”
The school fence, windows and the main door of the school were damaged and school property such as Samsung and Acer computers, cellphones and tablets were stolen. The School Principal is still to compile a full and detailed list of stolen property with an estimated monetary value.
Zwane said both incidents were reported to law enforcement agencies and no one has been arrested as yet.
