EC Premier Tests Positive For Covid-19

The Premier of the Eastern Cape, Oscar Mabuyane has tested positive for COVID-19.

His office announced on Thursday afternoon that he had flu symptoms and he went  for a Covid-19 test. His results came back positive and he engaged with his family.

“Premier Mabuyane started informing his family members, staff in his office, and some of the people he had met with recently about his test results and encouraged those with flu symptoms to undergo tests.” Mabuyane is currently in isolation at his home and he will continue working virtually.

His office  wished him speedy recovery and promised to support him through the recovery process.

In his nation address on Wednesday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the increase of infections in Eastern Cape is concerning. “What we are witnessing in the Eastern Cape should be a wake-up call to all of us, that we cannot relax and we cannot be complacent,” he said.

Meanwhile, former United Democratic Movement (UDM) mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Mongameli Bobani passed on yesterday due to Covid-19.
