As matriculants write their final year examination, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) says every grade 12 learner will write, even those who tested positive for Covid-19.

This is in-line with the guide from parents who requested that protocols set out be reviewed. Initially, the DBE said learners who tested positive for Covid-19 were not going to be allowed to enter the exam centre.

DBE Minister Angie Motshekga acknowledged the efforts taken by Department of Health in ensuring that all learners are given a chance to write. “We welcome the intervention by the Department of Health given that a learner that tests positive becomes the responsibility of the Department of Health and no longer an education issue.” Stressed Motshekga.

While learners will be screened when entering the exam venue, those with temperature above 38 degree Celsius will write in an isolation venue at the school.
