The Gauteng Department of Health confirmed the precautionary transfer of the CEO of Bheki Mlangeni Hospital, Ruth Mabyana. The Department said the CEO is allegedly implicated in a case of misconduct. Makabedi Makhetha will be acting in the position.
Spokesperson for MEC of Health , Kwara Kekana said the issues surrounding the case must still be verified and a determination will be made accordingly.
Acting Heath MEC Jacob Mamabolo stated that ‘there is a need to urgently resolve the broader challenges at Bheki Mlangeni Hospital and restore the confidence of the community in the facility’s capacity to continue providing much needed healthcare services”.
The MEC further added that the case of the alleged rape that took place in the facility is being looked into, and the department will appoint an independent investigator to help finalise the matter following an internal preliminary report.
It is alleged that a 16-year-old mental illness patient was allegedly sexually assaulted by another patient on Friday, 16 October 2020.
The Department of Health said it remains committed to improving the patient experience of care in Gauteng Health facilities.
