Two suspects to appear in court for possession of unlicensed firearm

Two suspects aged 23 and 27 are expected to appear at the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court today facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. The pair was arrested on Saturday when police conducted a roadblock on the N12 road just outside Stilfontein.

North West Police Spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said the police stopped a silver grey Toyota Corolla with four occupants. They searched the vehicle and found a firearm loaded with 16 ammunition.

“While the police were busy questioning the suspects, the other two ran across the road and fled into the bushes. Despite the chase, the duo managed to flee and are still at large.” Explained Mokgwabone.

The District Commissioner of Dr Kenneth Kaunda,  General Suzette Pretorius reiterated Police Minister’s call of surrendering all unwanted and illegally possessed firearms.
