South Africa is still fighting the Covid-19 pandemic and one of the things people are always encouraged to do, is to wash their hands with soap and water.
October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, an annual global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases.
The first Global Handwashing Day was in 2008 and over 120 million children around the world washed their hands with soap in more than 70 countries. Community and national leaders have used Global Handwashing Day to spread the word about handwashing.
Marking this important day also serves as a call for all South Africans to their wash hands regularly.
